Computer Labs

 

There are nine computer labs on the McDaniel College campus:

Academic Hall Computer Lab, Academic Hall (new academic building), G1

Primarily used as a classroom lab, it contains twenty Pentium 4 Windows computers running XP.

Charlson Computer Lab Hoover Library, 1st floor

The Charlson Computer Lab is used for general student access. It is equipped with 25 dual boot iMacs running both Mac OS10.4 and Windows XP.

 

During the regular Fall and Spring semesters, the Charlson Lab may be accessed 24-hours a day with the exception of 8-10am on Thursday mornings when the lab is CLOSED for cleaning and maintenance. To access the lab after posted library hours, you will need to check out a key card from Hoover Library. Key cards may be kept for up to 72 hours. Overdue keycards are presumed lost and will be deactivated (they will no longer open the lab door). The student will be billed accordingly.

Foreign Language Lab Baker Memorial Chapel, basement

Primarily used as a classroom lab, with priority given to students in Foreign Language classes. It contains 24 Windows computers running XP.

Graphics Lab Peterson Hall, 1st floor

Primarily used as a classroom lab with priority given to graphic arts students. It is equipped with eighteen Macintosh computers running OS X

Lewis Math/Computer Science Lab Lewis Hall of Science, ground floor, room G5

Primarily used as a classroom lab with priority given to math/computer science students. The Math/Computer Science Lab is equipped with 18 Macintosh G5 computers running OS X

Maggie Lab   Academic Hall , secod floor

Primarily used as an open use lab 12:00 noon to 8:00pm Monday through Thursday; 12:00 noon to 4:00pm Friday. It is intended for individuals or small group use only.

Physics Lab Lewis Hall of Science, third floor

The Physics Lab is primarily used as a classroom lab, with priority given to Physics students, students taking Introductory Physics I and II, and to General Science students (Astronomy, World of Light and color, Music and hearing, History of Scientific thought). It contains 16 Pentium 4 Windows computers running XP, with science interfacing equipment attached to each computer.

Windows Lab Lewis Hall of Science, basement floor

Primarily used as a classroom lab. It is equipped with eighteen Pentium 4 Windows computers running XP.

Writing Center Hill Hall, 1st floor

Primarily used as a classroom lab, with priority given to the English department, it is equipped with eighteen Pentium 4 computers running Windows XP. Peer writing tutors are almost always available during Writing Center hours. Students are encouraged to stop by and make an appointment, but drop-in appointments are also welcome. Please leave yourself enough time before your due date to benefit from the tutoring session. *Hours are subject to change without notice. Closings due to classes scheduled in a particular computer lab, will be posted outside that lab.

IT Lab Attendant Job Application and Work Agreement

If you are interested in working as a lab attendant in the Charlson or Windows Lab, please printout the Lab Attendant Job Application and Work Agreement forms, complete them both and bring them by the Information Technology office. Employment preference is given to students who have worked for IT in the past and to Federal Work Study students.

 

Computing Lab Access Policy
